» Xen DomU and crond. Ah, and debian too

For some weird reason, when you set up a DomU who runs Debian 5.0 (aka Lenny) and then boot it up, it just freezes out trying to get crond up. I’ve been google but I can’t realize what generates this error or “freezing”.

But… (there’s always a but) I know how to solve it! Just add this line to your DomU .cfg file:

extra = 'console=hvc0 xencons=tty'

An then run it again. I said “run it”, not “restart it”. I mean xm drestoy <id> && xm create file.cfg -c

» Howto: Via Chrome9 IGP on Ubuntu Linux

This tutorial is an updated version of the one made two years ago. For some unknown reason, that post keeps getting lots of visitors. After two years of development, the OpenChrome drivers are looking much better than the Via one’s, being the case, it’s in everyone’s best interest to use them instead of the ones provided by Via.

The steps are quite easy, and we wont use the binary packages, as those are always out of date. With the SVN version you should get a nice refresh rate for your CRT monitor and snappy 2D video for your window manager. You can check how to add 3D support later on the Ubuntu Wiki.

You should have all the compilation and build essentials installed first:

sudo apt-get install build-essential subversion
sudo apt-get install autoconf automake1.9 libtool
sudo apt-get build-dep xserver-xorg-video-openchrome

Get the openChrome sourcecode like this:

svn checkout http://svn.openchrome.org/svn/trunk openchrome

Change into the newly created directory

cd openchrome

Run autogen.sh with the prefix option so that the driver is being installed in the correct directory

./autogen.sh –prefix=/usr

Compile openChrome

make

Install openChrome

sudo make install

Remember to configure Xorg to use the openchrome driver:

sudo nano /etc/X11/xorg.conf

And replace:

Driver "vesa"

with:

Driver "openchrome"

Thats it. Restart Xorg or your PC.

If you want to download the slides of my last presentation about Xen, you have multiple choices and multiple languages. You can download the presentation in my native language, spanish, from my web-wiki-site or you can download it directly from Xen.org site (english and spanish) from the “Xen in the Industry” section.

In this presentation I made a demo about how Xen works. I did it with the Xen live cd, which can be downloaded from Xen Source site or from Insert-coin networks (both links points to the iso file).

» The most rocker day of my life.

Yesterday I was about the most rocker day of my life. It was on June 18th, 2008. That day I visited the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and Museum (here’s a pic), then I had lunch at Hard Rock Cafe (another pic) and finally I went to The Cure’s concert (and here’s another pic) at Wolstein Center in Cleveland, Ohio.

Remarkable.

» Such a perfect day…

Today was one of those day. I won’t say/write so much about it because it just sucks. I got a transit fine for parking in a prohibited place.

What ever, at the end of the day I just wanna listed that Lou Reed’s song called Perfect Day.

I think I need some girl that help me forge myself

Today was one of those days. I won’t give to much details because I really want to have a cup of the and watch TV. I’m just blogging to remember this day: One of the coolest days occupationally speaking.
